Reasons Why Your Condenser is Leaking
It's normal for your outdoor unit to leak, especially during the colder months. Here are a two reasons why your condenser is leaking:
1. Defrosting Process
Heat undergoes a defrosting cycle to prevent outdoor coils from frosting, which can cause damage. When the temperature drops below 32 degrees, the defrosting cycle activates, switching to cooling mode to melt the ice.
2. Condensation
During the heating process of HVAC systems, condensation occurs when warm air passes over the cold condenser coils. This causes moisture in the air to condense into water droplets, leading to condenser leakage.
Understanding Condensation
Condensation is the transformation of air into water droplets. This happens when water vapor in the air touches a cooler surface, causing water vapor to release heat and convert into liquid water droplets.
Condensation is a common occurrence in our daily lives without us realizing it! Here are a few examples:
Bathroom Mirrors: After a hot shower, condensation causes mirrors to fog up.
Cold Drink Glass: Ever see water droplets forming outside of your chilled drink? That's condensation forming up!
Morning Dew: Moisture from the air forms dew on grass in the morning.
Preventing Condenser Damage at MR. AIR NYC
To protect your HVAC equipment, at MR. AIR NYC, we ensure to elevate the outside unit above ground level. This prevents it from coming into contact with puddle, rain, snow build up and other potential risks.
Conclusion
If you notice a leak in your outdoor unit, don't panic - it's likely just condensation doing its job! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us at MR. AIR NYC at 212-393-4822 or email us at info@mrairnyc.com.
